I'm trying to search for why is Israel considered a part of Europe both for the qualifiers and for the Eurovision contest, but I can't seem to find anything.

Well, maybe it's to make it more competitive for the team? I really don't know, but I always remember to see Israel playing with European countries on the qualifiers :)

Israel's a decent side, and from that group they might contend for a playoff-spot. The reason they're in UEFA is political - most of the Arab-world doesn't recognize Israel as a state due to their occupation of Palestine, so that's the only way Israel gets to play with someone. Political reasons were also why Russia couldn't play Georgia and Azerbaijan couldn't play Armenia (two more countries that I'd technically consider to be in Asia) in the qualifyers, so it's not particular to Israel.
